Within the Space Management Plan of Wielkopolska Voivodship there were defined two zones of the development of agriculture:

• forest-recreation zone along with its ecological agriculture, which is situated to the north from Konin city and passing to the Gopło Lake and Wilczyn lakes;
• farming-forest zone along with versatile development of villages, which is situated at the edges of fuel-energy zone in the southern and western part of the county.

14 communes of Konin county are divided into 297 village councils. The local community inhabits 488 rural and 5 urban places. Population of Konin county amounts (according to the data from 31.12.2003) 122 453 residents, where the rural population made up 85,5%. 15,7 thousand were involved in forestry and farming.

The majority of soils (53,5%) are of V and VI class soil quality classification system.

In agriculture sector, according to the data from May, 2003, there functioned 17 266 farms in whole (here 17 256 individual private farms), which occupied about 109.738 ha of soils. Within the whole number of farms 78,0% keep only their farming activity, 8,5% keep as their farming as non-farming activity, 11,7% do not keep any business at all.

Group of farms with area of arable lands up to 1 ha was the largest and made up 26,5%. It occupied in whole 2.449 ha, what made average 0,53 ha for 1 farm.

Group of farms up to 5 ha (10.485) made up 60,8% of totality and occupied 19.411 ha in whole (17,7% of arable lands), what made average 1,85 ha for 1 farm.

Group of farms from 5 up to 10 ha (3.840) made up 22,2% of totality and occupied 30.686 ha in whole (27,9%), what made average almost 8,0 ha.

There were 1.677 farms with arable lands area from 10 up to 15 ha and they made 9,7% of totality. They occupied 21.960 ha (20,0%). Their average territory amounted 13,1 ha.

There were 1.264 of the largest farms – above 15 ha and they made up 7,3% of whole. They occupied 37.683 ha (34,3%), what made average area of 29,81 ha. At the same time, group of farms up to 5 ha made up in the Wielkopolska Voivodship 9,56% of the whole arable lands acreage, and above 15 ha farms – 62,25%.

In regard of the average area of arable lands due to 1 farm in general, Konin county with its 5,76 ha was located on 29^th place (among 31 counties). The same situation was in regard of the average area of farms (7,7 ha) excluding group of farms with area up to 1 ha.

Within the whole acreage of usable space (99.498 ha), arable lands – 78.010 ha –78,4%, therein sow areas make up 71.916 ha - 72,3%.

According to the absolute size of arable lands Konin county in 2002 was located on the 2^nd position within Voivodship, just after Poznań county.

Cereals – 47.622 ha – 66,2% had the most share at the sow areas. According to the sow areas size Konin county took 2^nd place in the Voivodship, where rye sow areas (25.682 ha - 53,9%) was the largest in Voivodship. There also was the largest in the region oats sow area (4.606 ha – 6,4%).

Konin county was also an absolute leader in Voivodship according to the potatoes growing area, which occupied 4.931 ha, what made up 6,9% of the whole sow area.

Konin county has second in Voivodship meadow acreage of 15.178 ha, what makes up 15,25% of whole arable lands, as well as the largest in Voivodship orchards – 2.161 ha (13,21% of all Voivodship orchards) and pastures – 4.149 ha (8,85% of all pastures in Voivodship).

Generally, shares of orchards, meadows and pastures acreages at the Konin county structure of arable lands are considerably greater then average for the whole Voivodship (see the structure below):

Konin county (beside Gostyń county) had the largest cattle herd (42.411 heads), where (equally with Koło county) cows (19.384 heads). In 2002, filling of usable spaces in Konin county with cattle was 2,35 heads for 1 ha and was somehow lower from that Voivodship-average – 2,52 heads for 1 ha.

Farms of the Konin county (equally with Kalisz county) had the most number of tractors (9.233) and significant (2^nd position in Voivodship) number of trucks. On average, one tractor worked for 10,8 ha of arable lands in county (14,0 ha in Voivodship).

The most number of farms within the whole Voivodship, the most cattle herd, significant number of poultry, one of the most number of tractors and trucks and arable areas result in the most number of farm buildings: cowshed (5.276), hen houses (2.514), barns (5.199), garages (6.583) and versatile buildings (7.936).
